In this topic, I will pick a random pokemon twice a week and write a little fictional backstory. With almost 500 pokemon out there, I think I should be good to keep writing for at least 5 years. I'm going to roll dice to determine what pokemon I'm writing about. My next post here will be the first backstory.
The Backstory of Starmie
Name: Starmie
DoB: February 20, 1975
Occupation: Water/Psychic Pokemon
Starmie was destined for Video Game greatness, but it took a very long time to get started. Starmie had started seeking employment in 1982 and was looking for a spot in Pitfall! for the Atari 2600. Starmie had practiced shooting Bubblebeams up at Pitfall Harry to knock him off, but the developers did not appreciate this mechanic. In the end, Starmie was shunned from the game and was replaced by rapid gators instead.
Disgruntled by the decisions made, Starmie shifted its focus to a new Arcade being developed, Mario Bros. in 1983. Starmie was sure he would get this job, as he flew through the warp pipes at light speed and dazzled the Mario Brothers with Rapid Spins. In addition to this, Starmie was impervious to the POW! Block, and always changed directions to get a step up. With this much potential, there was no way Starmie would be refused a position. However, Mario and Luigi were not fond of Starmie and scolded him for making the game too difficult. They shunned Starmie away, forcing it to go back home.
Starmie did not try to get back into games for a few years. Instead, it focused on developing its skills so it could become stronger. Starmie worked on its Bubblebeam, its Psychic, and of course its Rapid Spinning. Starmie then jumped on Monster.com to begin to search for more employment. That's when, in 1987 (many many years before the internet or monster.com existed), Starmie saw an advertisement for a new upcoming game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, The Legend of Zelda.

Monsters wanted! Land or Sea! Apply at Hyrule Castle. |
Starmie rushed to Hyrule Castle and met with King Harkinian to discuss employment. Starmie was perfect for the water monsters group, as it could skim along the surface shotting bubblebeams. There were many other applicants, but in the end, Starmie got the job! The only catch was that it had to work alongside someone named Zora. Zora smelled horrible and was very rude to Starmie. Starmie simply could not stand working with Zora. To make things worse, Zora didn't even speak a coherent language at the time. It was simply all "ZORA ZORA BAM" or something like that. Starmie could not deal with it any longer and quit. He started to think that maybe Video Games wasn't his thing.
Having given up on Video Games, Starmie began to seek employment elsewhere. Thinking that he was a Star in himself, he tried Hollywood. He made it to the set of Disney's The Little Mermaid in 1989, but didn't quite make the final cut due to a worrysome Flounder beating him out for the role. Starmie then made a move for Television, even starting his own talk show. Unfortunetely, nobody seemed to want to talk to a Starfish, so the best guest star he could get was Luigi from Super Mario Bros., and all he did was talk about Starmie's bad game mechanics.
In 1992, Starmie decided to make one last attempt at getting into the Video Game industry. A new game had come out for the Super Famicom system called Dragon Quest V. The game was heavily based on monsters and Starmie saw this as the perfect opportunity. Starmie once again applied, this time traveling to Zenithia. They explained to Starmie that he was in an awkward position. He was too powerful to be a beginner monster, but not quite big or menacing enough to be a boss or big bad monster. There just wasn't a place for him to go, and they dismissed Starmie from the game.
Starmie this time swore off of Video Games for good. He would go about his own life. 5 years later, Starmie had started a family and had settled down for good. This was when someone came knocking on his door. It was a recruiter for a new Video Game coming out based around monsters. Starmie slammed the door and wanted nothing of it. A few weeks later, Starmie began to see ads for the new Pokemon Franchise. Starmie decided he was going to have no part of it.
Several weeks after this, disaster struck. There was a Hurricane in the area, and many people on the Beach next to Starmie were in trouble. One girl was stranded far out in the ocean where no lifeguards could reach her. The beach was closed off, and there was nothing anyone could do. Starmie couldn't let this girl drown, so he decided to do some stretches and show off his abilities one last time. Starmie raced towards the ocean and swam towards the girl, having her crawl on his back. The girl was saved, and everyone cheered for Starmie. Starmie asked the girl for her name. She replied, Misty. Misty thanked Starmie and they went their separate ways.
The very next day, someone came knocking on Starmie's door. It was Misty. She explained to Starmie that she was going to be in the new Pokemon Red/Blue games coming out soon. The games were based on monsters, but these monsters were good monsters that you could train. Misty asked Starmie if he would be on her team of monsters as her #1. Starmie was delighted. Finally his dream had come true. Starmie was initiated into the Pokemon Franchise as the 121st pokemon. And the rest is history...
Ah, real cool Scy, real cool...
